Washington Youth Tour

The Washington Youth Tour is a weeklong trip to the nation’s capital, where 10 high school juniors from Blue Grass Energy’s service area will meet students from across Kentucky and across the United States.

Participants will spend a week in June touring Gettysburg, the Smithsonian Institute, Arlington National Cemetery, the FBI Building, the National Zoo, Library of Congress, U.S. Capitol, the White House and the Kennedy Center.

They also will meet with Kentucky’s national representatives in Congress and learn about electric cooperatives’ role in national government. Most importantly, the students from Kentucky travel together the entire week and forge friendships that truly do last, all while meeting and making friends with students from 46 states.

But it all begins in Frankfort. Participants will spend a day in Kentucky’s capital, learning about their state government, touring state offices and meeting with elected officials.

And the best part is the trip is at no cost to students. The youth tour is co-sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives and Blue Grass Energy.
